Rice has not been known in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and some of the gulf countries till recently. Wheat and its components used to be the main diet for the populations of this region prior to what is called the oil era, however at present, rice constitutes the main component of the kabsa dishes and it is served almost always in one or both of the main two meals (lunch and dinner). Despite this, the Arab countries in general, and Saudi Arabia and the other gulf countries in particular, can be considered of the lowest Arab countries in the consumption of rice compared to the other Asian countries.
